Birth Story
Ben was three days late but worth the wait! For the last week, I had contractions for many hours every night that were consistent but not quite strong enough to be the real deal. Then on May 6th they started to be strong starting at 4am but were only coming every 10-15 minutes with intermittent breaks. That morning out of nowhere Riley said "The baby is coming today" and Nate spent a good portion of the day yelling at my belly saying "Come out now Ben-it's time!" Noni was in town and we had a great day with the kids going to the library and park. Finally around 5pm the contractions were 7-9 minutes apart and I knew from Riley's quick birth it might be time to head to the hospital. We ended up coming in at 7:30pm and I was at 5cm-we were so happy to know that we could stay at the hospital and would be meeting our son soon! We walked the hallways, ate popsicles and talked about our Ben. At 11:00pm my contractions were still 6-7 minutes apart and I was only at 6cm so at 12:02 we decided to let the doctor break the water and Ben was born after an intense 36 minutes! Thanks to my wonderful coach Mesh and prenatal yoga I was able to deliver without meds. We fell in love the instant we saw Ben and can't imagine our family without him. This morning Nate and Riley met their baby brother. Nate couldn't hold him and kiss him enough and told each nurse or doctor that walked in the room that he was Ben's big brother. Riley was more interested in the fun hospital bed that moved at the click of a button - she is 2 after all! Welcome Ben, we love you!
Name
We chose Benjamin because we have always loved the name. We will call him Ben. Nate calls him Benny Ben and Riley refers to her little brother as Baby Ben. Subramaniam is a family name that has been passed down through the generations and is both Ramesh's and his dad's middle name. Dad/Badappa was affectionately known as Babu and Subu by friends and family. We are very proud to pass this name along to Ben and are certain Badappa is smiling down on his new grandson.
