Spring Break Change of Plans

For Christmas this year our big present to the kids was to take them to Europe for the first time over spring break.  Due to my surprise blood clot and the fact that it returned despite trying two different blood thinners, we learned in late March that we had to postpone our trip to London and Paris. Total bummer. But like true NorthWesterners - when it rains, we put on our raincoats and play in the puddles. So we were home for the kids soccer games and spent a few days in Suncadia (resort one hour away). Turns out it was very good that we stayed close to home because that darn DVT came back for a third time...but first, enjoy our spring break pics.

Happy to be a soccer mama!

On the second day in Suncadia I got out of the shower and saw all these collateral veins had popped back up. When you have a clot, your body creates new pathways to get around the clot - how amazing is that!  This was now a telltale sign to me that the clot was back for a third time despite being closely monitored on blood thinner.  We had a consultation scheduled already and we were told it was 50/50 on whether or not the vascular surgeon would recommend I have a rib removed. Seeing this, I knew it was inevitable.
